PRESS RELEASE: 23rd August 2018
The Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School is celebrating another year of excellent GCSE results. The new grading system for all subjects, used by only English and Maths last year, has been a challenge nationally with the increased content and difficulty.
We are delighted that 62% of our students achieved a strong pass in English which is the equivalent of a low B and high C. More impressive is that 83 % of our students gained a standard pass which is the equivalent of a C. This is in line with our very aspirational targets for this cohort. Our targets would put us in the top 20% of schools nationally.
In Maths last year our results put us in the top 9 % of schools nationally. This year we have performed incredibly well again. 55% of students achieved a strong pass (9 percent above our very aspirational target) and 78% gained a standard pass, again beating the high targets by a significant margin.
Bishop’s also excelled this year in a number of other subjects with Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish and Engineering all achieving over 70% standard passes.
Five of our students have achieved all Grade 7’s, 8’s and 9’s with an 8 or 9 in English and Maths in their ten subjects.
Headteacher Martin Henton commented ... " In the climate of national change both our students and staff have risen to the challenge to make great achievements this year and which is really well deserved following the hard work to prepare for the exams"
