The Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School

A Church of England School

BHBS British Rowing Champions

We would like to congratulate two Year 10 Bishop’s students, Rowan M and James H for becoming British champions, winning gold at the British National Rowing Championships Junior 14 coxed quad event.

Not only did they win gold, they also broke the previous 1000m record which now stands at 3m31s22ms – 18 milliseconds faster than the previous record holders, The Windsor Boys School.

Rowan (stroke seat) and James (cox) are part of a fantastic crew who previously won regional races before stepping on to the national stage in May, winning bronze at the Junior Sculling Regatta on the Olympic Lake in Eton out of 21 crews. They then went on to win the British Championships in July at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, against 24 other crews, many from renowned schools and clubs from around the country.

The crew dedicate a huge amount of time and effort to their sport, training for over 8 hours each week.

Rowan began rowing just 14 months before winning the British Championships which is an exceptional achievement.

Hereford’s Rowing Club junior squad coach Ben While commended the boys on achieving this rare and brilliant feat.
