The Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School

A Church of England School

We have a Junior International Champion! Year 8 student Grace (SLZ) won gold in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu in her first competition.

We are incredibly proud of Adiya in Year 8 (SRZ) for her outstanding performance in a recent talent competition, where she showcased her confidence, passion, and faith through preaching. Representing St Behanan’s Church in Hereford, Adiya first competed at Unit level, where she delivered a powerful sermon that earned her an impressive 2nd place.

Her success at this stage took her through to the Zonal level competition — a larger and more competitive event — where Adiya truly shone. Her inspiring message and strong presence saw her awarded 1st place, a fantastic achievement that reflects both her hard work and her deep commitment to her faith.

We are thrilled to celebrate the amazing achievement of Year 8 student Taya (SRZ), whose creativity and talent have earned her a place in not just one, but two published books!

Taya took part in a national writing competition run by Young Writers, where she submitted a beautifully written poem and an imaginative short story. Her work stood out amongst thousands of entries from across the country, and she was selected to have both pieces published — a truly incredible accomplishment for a young author.

Her poem and short story can be found in two separate Young Writers anthologies: “A Blast from the Past” and “The Power of the Pen: Tall Towers”, showcasing her skill in both poetic and narrative writing.

Year 10 student Chelsey has been congratulated for her help at Hereford's Close House project with the team of Community Volunteers (The EPIC's).

Close House Projects manager Ben Lea told us;

"EPIC stands for Energetic, Positive, Informed and Creative, and demonstrates the values that we encourage young people to put forward whenever they are on display. We believe that regardless of your academic ability or book knowledge, you can still hold all of these values and you'll be an asset to whatever community you find yourself in.

Chelsey has been working with our youth forum to help redesign parts of the Youth centre, and has been an instrumental part of the art group that have created vibrant art boards to decorate the spaces. She has joined the City Youth Council to help young people have a voice into the City Council and organised projects that make the City a better place for young people, including taking full and active part of a tree-planting project. She has also joined The EPIC's to undertake various voluntary roles, including distributing poppies for the Poppy Appeal, helping to set up for concerts at the Hereford Cathedral, and serving food to the elderly with the Kindle Centre Big Eat project. Chelsey is always kind and friendly to community members that she helps, turns her hand to whatever tasks are asked of her, and is a caring part of the team of EPIC's ho work hard for little praise.

We believe she thoroughly deserves recognition for truly demonstrating how EPIC she can be,

Thank you for supporting her in this work. "
